Discipline: A Path to the Best Version of Ourselves

Hello everyone! It is a pleasure to be here with you again through The Worst of These. On this occasion, I want to talk to you about a passage found in Hebrews 12:5. This verse introduces us to the topic of discipline, a topic that is often controversial and sometimes difficult to address. We all know that discipline is good, but we don’t always like it, right? It requires us to go beyond the desires of our flesh and can sometimes feel uncomfortable. In this blog, we will explore the meaning of discipline, its importance and how we can change our perspective to better understand it and ultimately turn it into a tool for our personal growth and development.

The Meaning of Discipline

The passage from Hebrews 12 tells us about discipline as an act of love on the part of God. But what does discipline really mean in this context? At its root, the word “discipline” relates to the idea of guiding someone towards righteousness, as when a parent guides their child to do the right thing. Discipline, in this sense, is a process intended to help us grow, mature and become the best version of ourselves.

Changing Our Perspective on Discipline

Discipline, although it can be uncomfortable, is based on love and the search for good for ourselves. Just as our earthly parents seek the best for us and discipline us out of love, our Heavenly Father does too. This invites us to understand that God is a good God and that everything He wants for our lives is good. Although we may not always like it, discipline is a means that God uses to guide us towards a better version of ourselves.

To get the most out of the discipline, it is essential to change our mindset and ask the right questions. As Tony Robbins once mentioned, something like, “the quality of our life is based on the quality of our questions.” Often, we are faced with situations we don’t like, and our first reaction is to ask, “Why me?” This questiondoes not empower usand, in fact, weakens us. Instead, we can learn to ask more constructive questions, such as: “What can I learn from this situation?”, “How is God leading me toward righteousness through this experience?” and “How can I become a better version of myself through this experience?”

The Purpose of Discipline

Discipline, when approached with the right mindset, leads us to become more resilient, strong and wise people. Through challenging experiences, we learn valuable lessons and develop the ability to overcome obstacles. Discipline helps us grow infaith and achieve a better version of ourselves. It is essential to understand that the objective of discipline is not to harm us, but to guide us towards a path of growth and improvement.

Conclusion

In summary, discipline is a fundamental aspect of our lives, driven by love and the pursuit of good from God. Even though it may feel uncomfortable, we must learn to change our mindset and ask the right questions to understand its purpose in our lives. By doing so, we become stronger, more resilient and wiser people. Discipline helps us achieve the best version of ourselves, guiding us toward righteousness and growth. So instead of fearing discipline, let’s embrace it as an opportunity to become the people God wants us to be.
